What a “Day at the Beach”!

3 Dec 2024 by Amy Smith

What a day it was on Saturday! After enduring over 60mm of rain on Friday night and Saturday morning, along with a strong westerly wind, the skies miraculously cleared just in time for the start of the working bee. By the end of the day, the sun was shining, and there were some lovely waves in the bay.

We had an incredible turnout for the working bee, which allowed us to accomplish so much more than we anticipated. A huge thank you to everyone who came along to help out! The club received a thorough clean from top to bottom, and items that had been sitting around for decades were finally thrown out (special thanks to Roger and his enormous trailer). Now we have more space for the equipment we actually use.

Please remember to keep the club tidy by returning everything you use to the same place and condition in which you found it.

A massive THANK YOU to Leigh and Michelle for organising the food, drinks, and music. Leigh made sure we were well-fed, providing lunch after the working bee and a delicious selection of finger food after the Skills Maintenance session. He even managed to cook all of this on an empty gas bottle – what a legend!

Speaking of Skills Maintenance, Andy and I put around 30 people through their paces, which is the largest group I’ve ever seen in one go. They had perfect conditions to practise board and tube rescues, and the run/swim/run was a hit with almost everyone (flat conditions helped!). Roger added some flair by repeatedly heading back out for another wave – I think we can officially call it a run/swim/body surf/body surf/body surf/body surf/run!

The day wrapped up perfectly with food, drinks, and music, giving everyone a chance to catch up. Although Jaylan missed most of this as he was still out in the surf catching waves, he made it back just in time to grab some food.

It was a fantastic start to the season, which officially kicks off next weekend.

See you at the beach!

Darryl
